❓ Why database.radio.geek.nz

Aren’t there already great repeater resources out there?

💯 Yep — sites like vhf.nz/map and others are awesome. They’ve served the NZ amateur radio community well, and we’re fans too. This isn’t about replacing what’s already working — it’s about building something complementary, flexible, and open from the ground up.

🌱 So what is this all about?
database.radio.geek.nz isn’t just another map or repeater list. It's designed to be an open data framework — one that can be:

🛠️ Community-updated
🌐 Machine-readable and dev-friendly
🔄 Easily consumed by other tools, sites, and projects
📦 Exported into common formats for easy programming (including for complex digital radios)

We're rethinking the foundation so that everyone can benefit, not just those browsing a website — but also devs writing tools, clubs building maps, or hams programming radios with tricky digital codeplugs.

🤝 Built for the community, by the community
Our goal is to make repeater data:

🔓 Open — anyone can use it
🔁 Up-to-date — thanks to low-friction feedback and corrections
🔧 Useful — across analogue and digital, with data structured for real-world needs

The dream? For database.radio.geek.nz to become the source of truth for repeater info in NZ — and to feed existing projects, new ideas, and future tools.

🚀 Join the Mission
We're still getting everything assembled — but once we're live, we hope:

Clubs will help keep their areas accurate ✅
Devs will plug into our open formats 🔌
Everyone benefits from one reliable, shared source 📡

Let’s build something useful together.
